SOCHUM
SOCHUM stands for Social, Cultural and humanitarian. This committee is a sub-organ of the UN that deals with a wide variety of topics all centered around fundamental freedoms and civil liberties. Essentially, SOCHUM functions to defend the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights and has had a large hand in promoting basic human rights globally. Through collaboration and discussion nations formulate resolutions that tackle some of the world greatest human rights violations.

Director: Cassandra Campbell
​
Cassandra is a grade 12 student at Belmont Secondary School and has been involved in Model UN for the past year. Over the course of that year Cassandra has found a passion in politics and global affairs. She also attributes MUN as something that has had a significant role in who she is as a student and as a person. Outside of MUN, Cassandra enjoys many hobbies some of which include soccer, general fitness, musical theater and travel. Cassandra looks forward to welcoming new delegates to BELMUN 2018.

Keemia Alizadeh-Borji is a grade 12 student at Belmont Secondary School. She attended her first MUN conference in grade 10, and had a blast. Keemia adores MUN for the string debate involved, the team work and loves the challenges it give her. It has helped shape her perspective on the world. Keemia is ecstatic to have the opportunity to chair SOCHUM and is excited to see what will come out of the very first BELMUN. Outside of MUN, Keemia spends her time on her roller skates doing roller derby as well as playing the piano and wasting all her time playing Sims.
